I think the riddle is in Chris Grabenstein's Mr. Lemoncoello's library Olympics (I think you should have Chris Grabenstein on Withywindle)

If the printer would appreciate a feminine name, it should be INKrid. If masculine, humperdINK.

Name ideas for the printer:

Bodach - Celtic name that means trickster

Loki - refers to the Norse god of mischief. Also a shapeshifter in the marvel universe. This would be a good name for the printer because it shifted from being a normal printer to being a moving sentient printer.

Mr Printer - this one’s self explanatory :)

I really like your idea for the name Loki! I just read D’aulaire’s Book of Norse Myths and love the Norse names!

Maybe Q can bring some kind of comic relief to your story. We like the idea of an internal conflict with someone else on his trail as he searches. Madelyn suggests that the antagonist not wear a black cloak. And she recommends that to just keep asking "why?" as you move forward. She also says that the thing Spence finds should be an animal who gives him a clue (either by adding a magical element or maybe the animal just had the clue on it), and now the animal cannot leave Spence's side. It becomes quite a chore to hide it as he searches and acts.

P.S. Madelyn really likes writing and loves hearing your thought processes as you tell this story together.

One name for the printer could be Impresora, which is Printer in Aymara

My husband walked through the door right as you guys asked what to name a sentient printer. I paused the podcast (on my headphones) and just asked him the question out of the blue with no context. (He’s used to my weirdness.) He thought for a moment and said, “a scrivener.” Which prompts me to suggest to you “Bartleby,” after Melville’s short story which my husband, coincidentally, hates. 😅 Please???
